Cats first

Onimo helps you find what you don’t want to lose. We built it for cats first, because when a cat goes missing it is usually still close by: stuck in a shed, behind a fence, deep in a hedge. That is exactly where a tracker or tag goes quiet.

The Onimo S

The Onimo S is small enough to sit on a collar and stays quiet most of the time. It wakes for a moment now and then, checks in with your Finder, and goes back to sleep. That is why weeks on a charge is normal here and days are normal elsewhere.

The Onimo F

The Onimo F, the Finder, sits in your home and does the quiet work. It knows when your cat is in or around the house, saves battery while that is the case, and pins down the exact spot when something goes missing nearby. GPS and Bluetooth cannot reach under a car or inside a closed shed. The Finder is what lets Onimo find what they miss.

The app

Set up by scanning the code on your Onimo; pairing takes seconds. Choose how often your Onimo checks in, see where it has been, and switch on Find Mode the moment something goes missing.

When something goes missing

The moment your cat leaves its usual range, Onimo tells you, so you are not left guessing. Find Mode turns up the signal so you can close in fast, and for the last few metres the Onimo S answers with sound and light.

You can see where your cat is. Not your internet provider, your phone carrier, or anyone else. Location stays between you and Onimo, always. Privacy built into the architecture, not bolted on afterwards.

What is inside

The Onimo S carries four radios and a handful of sensors, and nearly all of them are switched off nearly all of the time. That is the whole design.

Long-range radio at 868 MHz is the backbone. It carries small messages over hundreds of metres at very low power and reaches through walls, floors and hedges, where a satellite fix needs an open sky.

Satellite positioning (GPS) is the backup and it is off by default, because it is the hungriest part of the device. It wakes when a search is running, and from time to time to build up the territory map.

A passive Wi-Fi scan reads which networks are within range without connecting to any of them, which places the Onimo S indoors where satellites cannot reach.

Bluetooth LE covers the last few metres and pairs the device with your phone.

A six-axis motion sensor, accelerometer and gyroscope, tells the device whether it is moving or lying still. That is what lets it sleep hard and wake when it matters.

A barometer adds height, so a signal from the first floor is not mistaken for one from the garden.

Temperature sensors watch the battery and the electronics, not your cat.

And two parts you notice rather than measure: a buzzer and a light, for the moment you are close but cannot see.
